Dear Parents,

There have been some cases of head lice found at Longbranch Elementary recently.  We have checked children in the classes in which the lice were found and have sent home students with lice.  If sent home with lice, the child must be shampooed with a lice-killing shampoo, and nits (eggs) must be removed from the hair shaft by a lice comb or picked out by hand.  The school nurse must check the student for evidence of lice and nit removal before returning to the classroom.

It is important that students refrain from sharing hats, coats, scarves, etc.  It is also a good idea to keep girls’ long hair put up in a ponytail or braid.  Lice crawl from person to person.  They cannot fly or jump.

It is also important for parents to assist in the control of lice by checking your child’s hair every day and informing the school nurse if you find lice.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Sincerely,
Jane Crawford RN

  1. Please check your child's binder each night for homework assignments, notes, behavior chart, and other work from your child.
